MeisterSinger wins German Design Award 2019 for its “Circularis Power Reserve”

In developing its single-hand wristwatches, MeisterSinger has created a design language that makes each model immediately recognizable as a house product, but at the same time always offers new, expressive possibilities. MeisterSinger watches have already won numerous design awards, the latest being the German Design Council’s German Design Award 2019 for the “Circularis Power Reserve” with a steel-gray dial.

Circular motif and circular graining

The Circularis models make up MeisterSinger’s premium line, epitomizing the company’s technical and aesthetic sophistication and collective experience in watchmaking and craftsmanship in every detail. These include the meticulous sunburst finish that makes the dark dial shimmer as the light changes, the highly polished steel case, and the glossy chromed appliqués. The design is governed by circular elements, which are not only evident in the dial, where the single hour hand slowly rotates, in the date window, and at the center of the hand, but also in the highly unusual design of the power reserve. It is displayed in a large semicircle at 9 o’clock, thus making a key quality of the Circularis strikingly manifest as the tremendous power reserve that enables Circularis models to display the time with amazing exactness for a full 120 hours, i.e. five days.

All of this is made possible by the MSH02 movement, which was specially developed for MeisterSinger. Its level of precision meets the high standards required for singlehand watches. Manually wound, it accumulates the necessary power in two large mainspring barrels that in turn control the power reserve display. The movement is also extraordinary from an optical point of view: It is fitted with a uniquely designed bridge that replicates the design of the circle and semicircle with its shape and scalloped graining, which also made the MSH01, its sister caliber, the first mechanical movement to win the coveted German Design Award.

The fact that the German Design Council has now selected the Circularis Power Reserve CCP317G to receive the German Design Award for its outstanding design is highly satisfying for MeisterSinger and a great affirmation of its design work.

The MeisterSinger City Edition 2018 reminds wearers of what is really important to them

MeisterSinger makes mechanical watches that feature a single long hour hand. As it calmly rotates, it tells the time to people who are not distracted by minor details, but know how to set priorities. One of those is the place they choose to live in, or the affinity to a city they love to visit again and again.

Discreet affirmation

After the resounding success of the first City Edition watches last year, MeisterSinger has again collaborated with jewelers from cities all over the world to graphically translate the character of these places of longing – again very discreetly portrayed on the backs of the watches. On the dial, only the finely lettered “City Edition” reveals that this particular timepiece is something quite unusual, as each version appears in its own small, strictly limited series.

58 versions of the City Edition 2018 came about in this way, for cities from Munich to New York, from Delhi to The Hague. The cities are symbolized by a silhouette of their typical landmarks on the exhibition glass back. Next to the engraved name of the city, some of the watches also have a suitable aphorism. Toronto, for example, is the “World within a City” and Stockholm, of course, the “Venice of the North”. For the first time, several editions are dedicated to entire countries and their cultures. The Portugal version, for example, features a stylized guitar, reminiscent of the fado genre of music. And the “Round Table International” versions point more to a global community rather than a local one.

Elegant contrast

The City Edition is based on a MeisterSinger classic, the N°.03 with its 43-millimeter diameter, which has, however, been modified for this purpose, as only the City Edition of this watch has a circular, magnified date window located at six o’clock. The contrasting colors are also a special feature, as the dark blue of the hand and the typography form an elegant contrast to the sand gray dial.

The watches are powered by a painstakingly finished Swiss automatic movement that can be viewed through the glass exhibition back – behind the silhouette of the town or city that the wearer so closely identifies with.

The City Edition watches are exclusively available at our partner jewelers from mid of October and cost 1,750 euros a piece.

MeisterSinger presents the Perigraph Bronze 2018 Edition

MeisterSinger watches show the time with one single hand – for people who simply want to stay on track. The display principle is similar to that of early tower clocks and therefore reminiscent of historical instruments – with purely functional typography and consistently with double digits to indicate the hours. Moreover, MeisterSinger always has its own way of doing things: With its open date ring, the Perigraph has long since become an iconic classic of watch design. A limited edition featuring a solid bronze case now underscores the instrumental character of the watch.

Cultural progress

More than any other metal, the high-strength alloy of copper and tin represents cultural progress, the first trade routes on which the raw materials were transported and also early science, as it was expressed and applied on the Nebra sky disk, which is also made of bronze. And of course, bronze later served as the ideal casing for all valuable scientific equipment before people understood how to manufacture genuine stainless steel.

Although bronze is extraordinarily resilient, time does leave its traces on the surface of the metal. It is not possible to forecast how it will age, as the patina develops differently on each piece of equipment made of bronze. The fact that a bronze case is not only capable of reliably protecting a technical instrument over a long period, but also makes its age visible, was another reason for MeisterSinger to bring out a Perigraph in bronze.

Signs of aging

The surface of the robust Perigraph case will also age and take on a dark patina, according to the environment and the way it is used, as the Swiss automatic movement that powers the timepiece has a long life expectancy. When the Perigraph is first delivered, the bronze is still bright with a reddish gleam. It ideally matches “Old Radium” on the hand and the indices as well as the red instrumental highlights. The antique vintage calfskin strap visually anticipates the aging process, as at first sight it looks as if it has already withstood a fair bit of use.

The Perigraph Bronze 2018 Edition is limited to 100 pieces and will be available from September.

MeisterSinger’s transparent “jumping hour” is available as a set, together with a bracelet hand-made by Albanu of Monaco

MeisterSinger watches show us what is really important. That’s why they only need one hand; mostly an hour hand, except the Salthora models, which feature a minute hand instead. They are fitted with a distinguishing “jumping hour”, displayed in a round window at 12 o’clock, where a mechanism specially designed for MeisterSinger jumps to the next hour every 60 minutes – in a flash and with great precision.

This feat requires a considerable amount of exactly dosed power input, which also makes the Salthora the ideal basis for the first “jumping hour” in the form of a diving watch, the Salthora Meta X: water-resistant in a robust case, equipped with a rotatable bezel and meanwhile winner of the prestigious Red Dot Award for outstanding product design.

Technology you can see

As its sophisticated technology is the key factor in the success of the Salthora, the new Salthora Meta X transparent limited edition displays not only the time, but also the module that enables the powerful jump to the next hour.

It is not fitted with a conventional dial, making it possible to see exactly how the snail attached to the minute wheel stores the energy for exactly one hour before releasing it in the rapid, well-balanced movement of the actuating lever. Typical for MeisterSinger, the rotating hour circle is also open and the current hour is shown at the top in a frame.

Its color scheme, consisting of polished steel surfaces, matt black, and the vivid red accents on the hand, the indices, and leather strap also match the dynamic character of the watch.

Albanu: Craftsmanship made in Monaco

MeisterSinger also appreciates the fine work of other companies who have perfected the art of creating exceptional products in new variations and types. That’s why the Salthora Meta X transparent comes with a bracelet hand-made by Albanu of Monaco. Since 1928 Albanu has woven bracelets from unusual materials, which are both striking and hardwearing. For MeisterSinger, Albanu created a two-colored bracelet made of marine cord, just like those used in sailing, with a stainless steel silver and black clasp. Water-resistant and robust, it highlights the strong character of the watch when worn on the arm.

The Edition Salthora Meta X transparent is limited to 150 pieces.
